September 9th - Tell Berkeley City Council to vote against a contract with private security corporation Flock.
Talking points:
1) Flock data has been used to fuel deportation raids. Even though Berkeley is a sanctuary city that forbids data sharing with ICE, the federal government could simply subpoena Berkeley for the data and take the city to court. In this far-right judicial environment, that is a risk we cannot afford to take.
2) Flock data has already been funneled from Oakland and San Francisco to the federal government, and ICE specifically, despite that being a violation of state law.
3) Flock systems are constantly gathering data on citizens without probable cause or warrants. This kind of surveillance drag-net is a violation of privacy.
4) Flock is a national corporation, happy to serve even the most unethical law enforcement agencies at the right price. That means Flock systems can be used to hunt down people seeking abortions, or immigrant families living in hostile states. We do not want our tax dollars enriching this kind of corporation.
